Feel The Fabric
I’m off to Benjamin again this weekend, to record the final track of my upcoming “Slow Motion Clarity” EP. The song is called “Feel The Fabric”. With this one, you can expect less guitars and more synths ;)

* EP titled (“Slow Motion Clarity”).
* EP’s final song’s demo done.
* EP’s final song’s recording date booked at Benjamin Studio (end Jan).
* EP’s artwork in the works. Working with my talented friend, Jacques Kleynhans, again. He did the “Loneliness As An Art Form” album cover, as well as art for Dance, You’re On Fire and Straatligkinders.
I’m hoping to have all the songs mixed and mastered (by Keith Kenniff - Helios/Goldmund/Mint Julep) and the artwork done sometime in February, which means I could finally release I guess ;) Can’t wait!
New press pics for 2012, shot by my homie, Hanro Havenga.

A little while ago I mentioned a publishing deal. Well, that publishing deal is now legit. I signed up to the Massive Talent family (a division of Massive Music - Amsterdam, New York, London, Shanghai & Los Angeles). Check out the post on their site about the addition here. On my MT artist page my “persuasion factor” is “Could persuade a dragon to spit water instead of fire”, haha.
Upgraded to Reason 6 and bought some rad Korg Nano midi-controllers today. Oh, also got the photos back from the shoot with Hanro Havenga last night. Looking rad & having fun. Good day :)
Amped for tonight’s photo shoot with Hanro Havenga. Got my Scandinavian sweater and sparrow ready ;) It’s about time.
I finally have some news. Other than aiming to finish and release my new EP in early 2012, I’ve been approached by and have been negotiating with an international company who specialises in sync rights, over the last couple of months. I’m signing a publishing deal with them and will do a post with more info soon. I’m pretty excited.
It’s sadly been almost 4 months since I’ve been to Benjamin, so last Saturday saw me recording my third new song with Jacob Israel, entitled “Are You Going To Get Dressed Today?”, for my upcoming EP.
It’s been the simplest track in terms of things to actually record, as it’s mainly based around 4 layered guitar parts, and opposed to the previous two songs which both had an acoustic guitar element, I only had to record electric guitar for this song.
We started off by prepping the separate tracks and focused on going through all the programmed instruments/parts first, replacing patches and deciding on sounds.

I had like three different bass tracks of which we dropped one and simplified the effects on the others. I am clearly writing without proper studio monitors, something that’s going to change soon. Anyway, like with the previous two songs, we used Jacob’s Prophet ‘08 synth for some of the bass.

We also sorted out some of the strings, beats and pads before quickly recording some clapping before lunch. My girlfriend helped out with an extra pair of hands for this :)

After lunch it was guitar time. I used a different amp this time round, thanks to Christiaan of Vampire 9000. I got a very nice clean tone out of his little vintage Fender amp. Jacob also used an old additional vintage mic which he fixed up recently.

Once I got my tone sorted, I laid down the 4 guitar parts. We tweaked the tones on each track, so that all the guitars didn’t sound exactly the same.

That was it in terms of actual “recording” for the day. We then started with the EQ and rough mixing, as much as our ears would allow us for the rest of the day.

It was the quickest session I’ve had so far and I’m pretty stoked with what we had accomplished. Final mix tweaks will happen along with the other tracks once I’ve got them all done.
I’m hoping to record at least one more song before finalising my as of yet untitled new EP. I get more excited about this release with each new song completed. I’m hoping to be done before the end of the year, let’s see how things go…
I’m off to Jacob Israel’s studio, Benjamin, tomorrow, to record my third new track entitled “Are You Going To Get Dressed Today?”. Excited.

The demo that I’m busy finishing up for recording next week is on its 11th draft. The first draft/export is dated 30 November 2009. Mental. This is pretty much the case with all these “new” songs…
