Benjamin Session #4 - Feel The Fabric
I went in for my final session at Benjamin last weekend. I recorded a track entitled “Feel The Fabric” which concluded the recording of my upcoming “Slow Motion Clarity” EP.
This song has less guitar and is more synth-driven. It’s got a straight instrumental hip-hop inspired beat and some choir samples. Opposed to the other tracks I’ve done with Jacob until...

Feel The Fabric
I’m off to Benjamin again this weekend, to record the final track of my upcoming “Slow Motion Clarity” EP. The song is called “Feel The Fabric”. With this one, you can expect less guitars and more synths ;)

Joined The Massive Talent Family
A little while ago I mentioned a publishing deal. Well, that publishing deal is now legit. I signed up to the Massive Talent family (a division of Massive Music - Amsterdam, New York, London, Shanghai & Los Angeles). Check out the post on their site about the addition here. On my MT artist page my “persuasion factor” is “Could persuade a dragon to...

Publishing Deal & Recording Progress
I finally have some news. Other than aiming to finish and release my new EP in early 2012, I’ve been approached by and have been negotiating with an international company who specialises in sync rights, over the last couple of months. I’m signing a publishing deal with them and will do a post with more info soon. I’m pretty excited.

Benjamin Session 3 - Are You Going To Get Dressed...
It’s sadly been almost 4 months since I’ve been to Benjamin, so last Saturday saw me recording my third new song with Jacob Israel, entitled “Are You Going To Get Dressed Today?”, for my upcoming EP.
It’s been the simplest track in terms of things to actually record, as it’s mainly based around 4 layered guitar parts, and opposed to the previous two songs which...

Are You Going To Get Dressed Today?
I’m off to Jacob Israel’s studio, Benjamin, tomorrow, to record my third new track entitled “Are You Going To Get Dressed Today?”. Excited.

Old New Songs
The demo that I’m busy finishing up for recording next week is on its 11th draft. The first draft/export is dated 30 November 2009. Mental. This is pretty much the case with all these “new” songs…

Song 3
I blinked and it was 2 months since I recorded the last new track. Benjamin is booked for the end of the month and I’m in prep-mode for song 3, still deciding which song I’ll be doing next. Excited.

Officially "Out There"
As I mentioned in my previous blog post, “Loneliness As An Art Form” is now officially “out there” or “immortalized”, in a way. Well, in my eyes at least. It’s no longer available for free download like it was since it was released in September 2009. You can now buy it from CD Baby here:
…or from these other global digital retailers: iTunes,...

Loneliness As An Art Form - Digital Distribution
I’ve signed “Loneliness As An Art Form” up for global digital distribution recently. This means you’ll be able to buy it from some of the world’s biggest digital music retailers including iTunes, Amazon MP3, Napster, eMusic, Rhapsody etc.
It’s going to take about two to three weeks to be processed and it also depends on some distributors’ criteria etc....

Benjamin Session 2 - "...Music To My Eyes"
Yesterday, I finally managed to get back into the studio to record another new song for what I’ve decided would be a new EP (currently still untitled). I’m hoping for it to have at least 5 tracks and at this point, it seems like it’s going to be 100% instrumental.
It’s been just over two months since I joined Jacob Israel at his studio Benjamin, to do “Maybe...

Song 2, Second Try
After having to postpone this session 2 weeks ago, I’m heading off to Benjamin again on Sunday to record another new song. I can’t believe it’s been 2 months since the last one. Couldn’t have come at a better time.

Tradition?
So I had to postpone my recording session at Benjamin, which was scheduled for this Sunday. Is this becoming tradition? An initial date is yet to work out. Sigh. I’m planning and hoping that June will be a productive Watermark High month - I won’t have the plague and should have fewer Dance, You’re On Fire tour dates. Holding thumbs. Knocking on wood. Working on more demos.

Music To My Eyes
I’m almost done with the final demo for the new song I’m recording at Benjamin next week. I’ve decided to do a song called “To Take In Green After So Much Blue, Was Like Music To My Eyes”. It’s named after a line from “The Life of Pi” by Yann Martel. It’s probably the most “up-beat” track out of the new stuff. Really excited to hear...

Song 2
I’m heading back to Jacob Israel’s studio, Benjamin, later this month, to record another new song. I’m still deciding which one it’ll be as I’ve got about three that are record-ready. Let’s hope it’s going to be as much fun as it was recording this.

Scoring A Short Film
I’m busy working on the score for a sci-fi short film called “City Of Ashes”, which will be airing on M-Net later this year.
The film will contain some “Loneliness As An Art Form” spin-off pieces of sorts, but mostly newly composed stuff. If you’re into Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu films, then keep a look out for this short.
Commit, Commit, Commit
Looking at some new recording dates in May…let’s see if it works out. Otherwise, June. I want to try and get at least another two songs down in the next session.

Jacob Israel's discography...
…is now online for free. Do yourself a favor and download it. I’m busy recording my new material with Jacob and he’s always been a big inspiration. His latest album, “This Too Will Pass” is my favorite of the three.

New Song Online - Maybe Tomorrow, Everything Will... →
Finally, a new song to share (click on the heading). If you like it, please share the link with whoever you think might like it too. I’d really appreciate that. I’ll hopefully be heading back to Benjamin real soon, to continue recording some new stuff. Here are the credits for “Maybe Tomorrow…”:

Keith Kenniff Masters The Watermark High
I’ve been waiting for a while to announce this and finally got confirmation today. I’m super psyched to say that my new track will be mastered by Keith Kenniff (the man behind Helios, Goldmund and Mint Julep), in Portland, Oregon, USA.
Not only did I get the opportunity to record with someone that I highly revere (Jacob Israel), but now I’m also getting mastered and...

Ants In My Pants
Got the first mix of “Maybe Tomorrow…” back from Jacob today. It’s the song I recorded at his studio, Benjamin, last Friday. Ants in my pants! He did a stellar job. A few minor tweaks will be made tomorrow before I’m sending it off for mastering later this week, hopefully, which is just as exciting as I have a certain hero of mine in mind for the job. Will announce...
